If you decide to pack some or all of your household items you might need some packing tips when it comes to certain items. When moving electronics you should take into account that these sensitive pieces of equipment need careful packing to prevent damage in transit.

Moving a computer, TV, stereo, game system, satellite dish, home wifi system, home theatre system or any other electronics demands care and attention. How to pack electronics

• Refer to the manufacturers or users guide for specific moving instructions. If you don’t have either of these, visit the manufacturer's website for an online version or to request a copy.
• Before packing your computer, back up all your files onto disc or flash drive so that you won’t lose any important data.
• If you’re packing a printer or any piece of equipment with a toner or ink cartridge, remove it and store it in a sealable bag. Pack the bag with the piece of equipment that it was removed from.
• Remove all CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes or other media from equipment and pack them separately and carefully to prevent damage.
• Before disconnecting anything, mark the wire or cable and the port you're removing it from with colour-coded labels so you can reconnect them later.
• Write down detailed step-by-step instructions on how you've dismantled the equipment so you can refer to it later when reassembling it. Keep this instruction guide in the box with the equipment.
• When packing electronics, use the original boxes that the components came in, if you still have them. These will provide the best fit and have a spot for any cables and connecters that go with the piece to prevent confusion when you’re unpacking everything.
• If you haven’t kept the original boxes wrap the electronics carefully to prevent scratching and place in a sturdy box that’s just a little bigger than the piece of equipment. Wrap and place all labelled cables and associated pieces in the box as well. Or you can have a dedicated cable and parts box as long as everything within it is securely labelled.
• Seal the box with packing tape, mark it “Fragile” and indicate which way is up. If not using an original box, label it with the contents as well as which room it should be placed in.
